Our Children are the Future. Practicing great oral hygiene can prolong their lives.

How important is your oral hygiene to you? In order to effectively prevent dental diseases in your young ones, it is imperative that they follow three key rules: (1) Eat healthy, nutritional foods, (2) practice excellent oral hygiene, and (3) use fluoride toothpaste. To avoid cavities, eat foods with high fiber and carbohydrates and resist glucose rich foods. Demonstrate good oral hygiene by being a good role model.

Fluoride protects tooth enamel. By educating our children on these three basic techniques we can substantially eliminate the chances of them developing dental diseases and allowing them to live long, healthy, and happy lives. Our children are the future and it’s our responsibility to make sure that they become the healthy strong leaders of tomorrow.

My first time exposure to the field of oral & maxillofacial surgery was exciting!

In the summer of 2016, as a pre-dental student in undergrad, I had the opportunity to spend two weeks examining and shadowing the life of an oral & maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Lisa Cohen of Maryland Oral Surgery Associates allowed me to stand by her side during every surgical procedure on a daily basis. I cleaned the dental instruments, helped set up surgical trays, cleaned the patient rooms, and asked questions pertaining to running a successful business and choosing the best dental school. It was truly an eye opening experience that caused me to highly consider pursuing this specialized career in the future.

What stood out the most to me about Dr. Cohen and her staff was their charisma and personalities behind the scenes. They were genuine individuals who were honest about their personal journeys to obtaining their careers. When it came to helping and advising their various patients that came in for appointments, I could see that they really cared about the people. They showed me that as a doctor, true success comes from helping others and making a heartfelt connection with the people you meet so that they know you honestly care about their oral health.
